when things don't go as planned...

Jon Acuff is the author of the book Stuff Christians Like. His blog post from today was especially relevant and reassuring at this point in my life. I pulled an excerpt that I directly relate to and another I found particularly comforting, however I hope you will read through the whole thing. Enjoy!

"Right now, there’s someone struggling with an issue that refuses to release it’s talons even though you’re occasionally able to shake it for a few 'good weeks.' "
-----

...God still says to us, even today:
“I know, my son, I know. I know, my daughter, I know. That thing you wanted is not going to happen. Not the way you’ve always dreamed. I know this hurts. I know this stings. I know you feel like I am distant or not aware of where you are and who hurt you and what you think life was supposed to be like. I know in moments like this you doubt that I can count the hairs on your head or have your best in mind. But please, I am not done. I have barely started to reveal your life to you. I am the God who satisfies your desires with good things. That is me! And when it comes to your hopes and your fears and your dreams, I know, my son, I know.”

sharing a little Christmas cheer

here's a post card i made for the children's ministry at First Baptist Church Thomasville. the finished piece is two-sided and a quarter page size. I loved getting to use handwritten lettering and drawings and do something out of my ordinary routine!
Merry (early) Christmas!

for real?

this can't be real. it has to be some sort of joke.
urban outfitters. WHAT. ARE. YOU. DOING.

curved word art text? stretched type?
that may make me sound like a graphic design snob...but you can't tell me that's cool.

end of rant. now i'll probably do some internet shopping.

do something fabulous

Reaching my 22nd year of life, I am no closer to figuring out what I want to do with after college than I was 4 years ago. For the 22nd anniversary of my birth, I chose to take a vacation from the computer for mostly the whole day. I only went to one class, had lunch with one of the most incredible people I know (shoutout to Becca Calvert), and baked cupcakes the entire afternoon, while listening to my Mariah Carey Holiday pandora radio station... (don't judge until you've tried it). Hanging out with people I love and making cupcakes was the perfect way to spend my birthday.
I've declared that I will do something fabulous every day of my 22nd year.  Today, while my co-worker and I were looking for a key to get us into plainjane, I took the opportunity to visit Two Story Coffeehouse here in Athens for a cup of tea, while I worked on my pending designer website for school (and for my future, I suppose). I know I enjoyed eavesdropping on my neighbors' conversation about his and her futures more than I enjoyed completing my work... It's nice to know that hardly anyone my age knows what to do for the rest of his/her life. My mom says to just get a college degree, then go from there. Currently working on completing that first part, and as far as the "go from there" part, we'll see what happens.
Until then, enjoy this little picture I got courtesy of thatshappy.blogspot.com.

glowtastic classic

i guess Murawski had a point...my scribbles actually provided the basis for this logo. i sketched the word "glowtastic" in my scribbles-book and added a little photoshop, and voila! fantastic glowtastic classic.

looking for Architectural Digest magazine covers, i stumbled upon this magnificent chair. one day, I WILL have this in my office. after all, everyone needs a nap in the middle of the day, so why not make it count?
introducing the napping chaise by Herman Miller. perfection? indeed.

aerodynamics for the pathfinder

after getting a new timing belt, i figured i would treat my car to a little cleaning. there's this $4 carwash that does a decent job cleaning the outside, but the best part about this place is that carwash customers can use the vacuums free of charge (without a 2 minute time restraint like the quarter-eating vacuum machines at other places). so, as i'm pulling into the car wash, the attendant asks if my antenna will go down. i politely tell her that it used to retract, but for some reason, it no longer does. *note to reader: this should've been my clue not to go through with the car wash...*
i'm riding along in the $4 car wash, carefully watching my antenna being flung this way and that by the huge twirling fabric cleaner things, when all of the sudden, about halfway through the cycle, i no longer see my antenna.

long story short: the good news is my car is clean. the bad news is the car wash ate my antenna. but look on the bright side, the antenna is still attached and functioning (for the time being), and my car is now more aerodynamic thanks to this ordeal. check it out.

dogs?

project 5 for scribbles teacher: create "line-bred" dogs (aka: alien dogs)
*note: his favorite one so far is the wiener dog. he also likes the personality in some of the others.
weird? definitely. welcome to art school.

HOPE money hard at work.

after a full semester of scribbles, i've worked up to these creations. don't worry, there's many more of these entries to come later. we're only on project 5 of 10. you, lucky reader, you.

unless it's not completely obvious, here's my take on the future of "Super Crops" in the cotton industry. that little farmer is so proud of his prize winning jumbo cotton. i mean, who wouldn't be?

eco-friendly fights against personal safety...

stumbled upon this beauty while looking for high res images of "going green." yes, there is a second seat...but you have to ride motorcycle style – one behind the other. worth it? decide for yourself.

trapstar: this one's for you.

here we go

since i'm currently reading blue like jazz by donald miller, i'll start out this blog with a quote from his book:
"If you believe something, passionately, people will follow you."
that's quite a power that we all possess. i think that's a good quote to start out the blog of all ages...
